Graduate Student
• Development of new Ni- and Ni/photoredox-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction methods using redox-active alcohol auxiliaries in the Rousseaux group• Biweekly project presentations on research progress to the group• Teaching Assistant for various organic chemistry undergraduate courses at UofT: CHM136 (TutorialLeader) x 3, CHM151 (Tutorial Leader), CHM247 (Laboratory Demonstrator)
Chemistry Lab Curriculum Renewal Project (Chm136H)
• In collaboration with Prof. Barb Morra, Prof. Scott Browning, Prof. Mark Nitz, Prof. Sophie Rousseaux and another graduate student in the department (Jimmy Lee), I helped develop both new and refreshed laboratory experiments to be implemented into CHM136H, the introductory first-year undergraduate organic chemistry course offered at UofT• Responsible for idea generation, experiment optimization and the creation of the final laboratory procedure for each experiment in the refined CHM136H lab curriculum
Chemistry Teaching Fellowship Program (Chm247H)
• In collaboration with Prof. Andy Dicks and Prof. Barb Morra, I developed a new laboratory experiment to be implemented into CHM247H, a second-year undergraduate organic chemistry course offered at UofT• I was subsequently awarded a second fellowship with the goal of transforming my newly developed laboratory exercise and all others for CHM247H to an online format for virtual learning during the COVID-19 global pandemic• These fellowships are typically awarded to senior graduate students as this commitment requires strong time management skills and work ethic
Research Assistant (Co-Op)
• Planned and conducted various projects related to the isolation and characterization of microorganism-derived small molecules with relevant bioactivities for publication• Responsible for reviving lyophilized bacterial strains, culturing bacterial strains in liquid media, performing liquid/liquid extraction, liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry experiments of bacterial fermentation extracts, and analyzing results using developed bioinformatic and chemoinformatic software platforms
Analytical Chemistry Student (Co-Op)
• Responsible for performing analytical tests such as nuclear magnetic resonance, mass spectrometry, elemental analysis, thin layer chromatography, optical rotation, and melting point to access the purity of all synthesized and imported products• Interpreted and reported scientific results while consistently adhering to strict documentation guidelines • Worked collaboratively with cross-functional teams to address daily tasks and problems
