While operating at ~ 12% capacity, we delivered 1.5 million components per month. I was responsible for department budget, personnel performance, training, annual reviews and salary adjustments. I developed gauge repeatability and reproducibility (Gauge R&R) studies leading to implementation of statistical process control (SPC). I led the department towards ISO 9000 certification and continued compliance.I also served as Interim Maintenance Manager for 6 months.As the operations were relocated, I was responsible for transferring the optical components epitaxial operations from Colorado to the San Jose Wafer Fab; these 5 product lines generated ~ $12.5 million in revenue.JDSU split into Lumentum and ViaVi in 2015.

I was the Growth engineer that produced the lasers for the world's first demonstrated 10 gigabit 1310 nm Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) transceivers, as well as the first commercially available 4 gigabit transceivers. I was primarily responsible for the Gallium Arsenide semiconductor crystal growth, equipment calibration, maintenance, and data recording on the 1310 nm reactor. My duties included Emergency Response Team member for sites containing hazardous materials and toxic gases.JDSU acquired Picolight, Inc. in 2007.

VCSELs are the semiconductor lasers that are the light source for fiber optic applications. I operated and maintained three Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) growth reactors. I performed all pre- and post-growth characterization of the epitaxial material. Responsible for maintaining growth records, part procurement, and vendor support.

Naval Prototype Training Unit S1W

After graduating first in a class of 90 students, I was selected to remain as an instructor for officer and enlisted students on the theory, maintenance, and operation of an actual nuclear reactor. This school was an extensive six month program. I was responsible for the hands-on training, progress reports, examinations, lectures, and counseling; specializing with the Electronic Technician students. I participated in the de-fueling and decommissioning of the first nuclear submarine prototype unit S1W - the functional model for the USS Nautilus.
