At Lovonya Dejean I was the 7th and 8th grade ESL (english as a second language) math teacher. I created and implemented lesson plans paired with the common core. A typical class session involved a short introduction to the math concept followed by an example we did together, and then independent practice in groups. Routine and systems were very important. This work involved a lot of soft skills in communication where I got to ask a lot of questions to get a deep understanding of how our product could really help the customer. This would result in assisting the business development consultant to make the sale as well as help the company find the right solution for their goals.
  • Mindbody
    Database Administration Intern
    Mindbody Aug 2014 - Jul 2015
    San Luis Obispo, California, Us
As a complete newcomer to the world of databases, I learned the ins and outs of database administration in this internship. I worked with Microsoft SQL server management studio. I was given about three projects, in addition to some daily tasks resolving tickets the IT department got that were solvable via the database. I also created documentation for SQL commands we would use frequently. The first project was to correct the database monitoring system dashboard. This involved looking at all of the system alerts and making sure they are correct so no one is alerted in the middle of the night for something unnecessary as well as no one is missing a big important warning from the system. The second project involved working across the IT department to document the server spin up process, and also execute my part from the database side. The third project was working with a front end developer who needed a new database structure so that he could effectively change a client facing web UI.
  • Jet Propulsion Laboratory
Star (Science Teacher And Researcher) Intern
Jet Propulsion Laboratory Jun 2012 - Aug 2012

I was given the opportunity to work under the supervision of a geologist in the Mars Department at NASA. I was assigned to a team who was designing a new mars mission that involved returning back to earth with a sample. This team of engineers and physicists were tasked with creating a thorough proposal. So when I joined, I was tasked with tracking their logic and decision making when it came to the encasement of the sample (like what material and why, as an example). I was also given the opportunity to work under the supervision of a Systems Engineer who was researching Solar Electric Propulsion. He wanted me to search through archived mission proposals to collect information about the frequency and choices made in regards to the option of using SEP.

    Pasadena, Ca, Us
Prior to my nasa internship, I entered a contest to design a Mars Mission for the chance for a paid-for robotics competition on site at NASA. I submitted the assignments as they required and by myself designed the logistics of the mars mission - the rover, where it was going to land, what it was going to search for, technological advancements, etc. I entered this competition amongst others across the nation, and I won a chance to go to NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Here I worked with other students like me to create a low-level robot to enter the competition.
