About Jessica Yamamoto
You're telling me I can turn anything into something valuable? I've always loved science but haven't always known about engineering so here's some quick facts about why I'm here and why I love what I do!1. I love engineering. The culture of "what do you need and how can I help you" inspires me to always expand my network to others and ask them what it is they need to succeed. If I can help you, I will, whether you're a friend, colleague, client or person on the street asking for directions! 2. I love people. If anything, I find that every year I realize even more how little I know and how many people out there have lived experiences I'll never be able to empathize with and can only try to understand. As a Co-Director of the SDG Alliance, I've met with students, faculty and staff from all areas of UBC to ask "what do you want to see out of our campus?" and it's never what you expect but always what you need to hear.3. I love sustainability. And not just for the environment (1000% yes to that aspect), but for the people living in it too. In every project I've worked on, there's always a sweet spot of helping both people and the environment thrive and that's where I want to set up camp for the rest of my career! While I may have designed systems and created new initiatives, at the heart of what I do is the people I do it for. What's a project you've been inspired by? What's something new or innovative you would love to see in your positions or in your life? Feel free to connect and we can chat over what we can all collectively do, not only for our own lives, but those we impact daily!
