I currently lead the research programme on Green Industrial Policy in the Age of Rare Metals with IIAS as a partner institute.

State-building and Poverty Reduction: A Transregional Comparison of Latin America and Southeast AsiaA two year project aimed at a single-authored monograph exploring the political and institutional conditions that give rise to successful poverty reduction strategies in resource-rich countries.

To develop a research programme examining state expansion and control over natural resources in Southeast Asia. Through collaborative research with Jin Sato, we develop a theoretical framework in analyzing resource conflicts, state-society relations, and governance schemes in Asia. The research utilizes comparative methods, looking at Indonesia and the Philippines, focussing on minerals, oil and gas industries. The output is a single authored monograph, due to be submitted to a university press.

A monitoring and evaluation (M&E) framework was developed to help the PWYP Secretariat in systematically evaluating the strengths and weakenesses of the coalition work at the international and national levels. The process involved working closely with an Advisory Board and the PWYP Secretariat.

I held a tenure-track post as Lecturer/ Assistant Professor at the University of Sheffield. I designed new graduate level courses, taught across a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate modules, as well as conducted research during the three years at Sheffield. Our research group on Development was awarded 4* in the 2014 REF cycle.

My current research examines the broad relationship between natural resources and economic development. In the context of an export bonanza, some resource-rich states have been shielded from the global crisism, and instead, are experiencing sustained growth. I was the Convenor of the Development Politics Group in the Political Studies Association (PSA). Through this position, I built direct working relationships with key British universities and research institutions. Our activities included running special workshops involving academics and development practitioners, organising panels in annual meetings, and promoting world class research on international development.

Research report on sovereign wealth funds (SWFs) in financing renewable energy projects in developing countries, including an overview of various types of natural resource funds (NRFs), comparative analysis of different governance structures to manage funds, and examples of good practices in strengthening the role of parliaments and supreme audit institutions in managing the funds.

Research report on the political economy of financing anti-poverty and pro-children's rights welfare policies through mineral rents from extractive industries in the Philippines, including a review of existing mining regulations, social policies, and anti-poverty programmes as well as recommendations for future policy actions.

I provide research support to the principal investigators of the Transdemos project "Democracy beyond the Nation State? Transnational Actors and Global Governance", including conducting fieldwork, consisting of semi-structured interviews, archival research, and documentary analysis.
