Director, Information Technology

Data Storage Corporation was a cloud based SaaS startup that leveraged a homegrown e-commerce platform to sell off site data storage and backup/recovery services in a consumption model (by the GB). This was extremely innovative at the time. People were not even ready to buy things online with a credit card, let alone transmit their corporate data over the internet and store it with a 3rd party. Overcoming objections and adversity was routine. Being a startup, the role was very hands-on and responsibilities ranged from cold calling customer to planning and executing data center migrations and configuring all of the gear. On the tech side, a lot of long nights, self study and calls to support lines helped me learn about e-commerce (merchant accounts, fulfillment, security), storage virtualization (Xyratex JBOD and Store-Age Storage Virtualization), networking (RIP, BGP and Autonomous Systems), monitoring (SNMP), telecommunications, business continuity, and disaster recovery. On the business side, the company was extremely customer focused. I handled all of the customer service and eventually after a lot of convincing I was introduced to sales by my mentor Chuck Piluso. I was was exposed to the creation of go-to-market planning and business development including the creation of partner programs ranging from referrals to OEM deals.
