I have been a licensed foster home since 2016. I have worked with multiple families as a role model on appropriate parenting, time management, and money management. I have worked with numerous children, ages 2 to 18 years of age, helping them learn and develop skills ranging from learning to talk and use silverware to teaching independent living skills, such as learning to pay bills, how to budget money, how to arrange transportation, make doctors appointments and how to conduct themselves in an appropriate manner just to name a few.I have attended many numerous training's, home inspections and I have learned most of my skills from hands on experience.I have also had to have great communication skills. Being the child's advocate, I have to be able to voice my concerns and opinions in a polite and professional manner. I use these communication skills to work as on a team with the caseworkers to form a reunification plan, I work with therapists and counselors for these children and I also work closely with the school officials to decide on the best course of action concerning struggling students and getting them an IEP, helping them become better behaved, and obtain better grades. I use my communication skills when attending court hearings concerning the case plan or reunification of families. I have also learned organization skills. I need to be able to keep all of my papers in order so the are easily found, I have to keep documentation of all the driving I do and I also have to keep track of all the doctors appointments for all of the children. I have also developed listening skills, time management skills and a sense of compassion. I have built relationships with many different counselors, social workers, doctors and police officers in my community. This "job" has instilled many different skills and qualities that I feel will come in hand in my future endeavors.
