Profile bio

About Jo Bangles

My passion is story telling through images.I choose to support brands and organisations that are contributing to solving the climate crisis, not adding to it.In the early 2000s my eyes were opened to the amount of waste the first world produces, when I undertook a pan-American motorcycle journey from Alaska to Patagonia with my then partner. That trip covered 57 000 kms through 15 countries. From the time we left Canada and entered Latin America, we didn’t see a hot tap in a kitchen until we stayed with friends in Santiago, Chile. Something that most of us would take for granted as a basic necessity was a rarity in Latin America! But the big shock was reentering the 'first' world, after having roughed it for over a year in developing countries. Seeing people in restaurants not finish their food was shocking to us! Seeing the rise in fast fashion, fast food, fast everything that often ends up in landfill - that was downright disturbing!Over 20 years on, and the cost of that rampant consumerism is being felt globally, and it’s now* clear that we urgently need to act. From grass roots campaigns to the highest levels of business and government, we all need to step up for the greater good. Yes, I’m an idealist! Pleased to meet you. *yes, scientists have been warning us about the impending climate crisis since the end of the Cold War - which just goes to show how important communication is!
