Jo has over twelve years of consultancy experience in the fields of museum theatre, education and interpretation. She is the current president of the International Museum Theatre Alliance (Asia Pacific), a role that has included being a conference convenor, coordinating and presenting at museum theatre professional learning events for the Australian Museums and Galleries Association (AMaGA), and managing special projects for the IMTALAP commitee. She holds a PhD with a focus on Museum Theatre from the University of Melbourne. Jo is also an award-winning professional close-up magician with sixteen years of performance experience.

Jo's role at HTAV was to promote history education by developing resources, working with teachers, and partnering with cultural institutions and universities. Her work at HTAV took the form of web resources, books, videos, digital projects, performances, articles, exhibitions, presentations and research projects. She was also the commissioning editor of HTAV's Agora in 2017 and 2018, producing editions on 'Indigenous History' and 'Digital History'. While at HTAV she authored the book 'Dear Oma: A Story of Federation', used by teachers of level 5/6 History.Jo has consulted for: National Trust of Australia (Victoria), Royal Flying Doctor Service, Department of Education and Early Childhood, ABC, Educational Services Australia, Department of Veterans' Affairs, The Shrine of Remembrance, Public Records Office Victoria, Heritage Council of Victoria, Culture Victoria, Chinese Museum (Melbourne), Amnesty International, Medical Association for Prevention of War, History Teachers' Association of Australia, Gallipoli Oak Project,'Well Imagine That' television, Spirit of Anzac Prize, Cooks' Cottage, Australian Institute of Teaching and School Leadership, The Songs They Sang, National Sports Museum, Heide Museum of Modern Art, Yarra Ranges Regional Museum and Victorian Opera.Jo has been a regular lecturer for HTAV at universities across Victoria since 2010. She presents on best practice in history education, and using digital technologies to teach and learn history.

Jo coordinated the National History Challenge from 2008-2018 and has sat on regional, state and national judging panels since 2004. As coordinator, her responsibilities included organising state launches and ceremonies, training judges, promoting the NHC to schools, coordinating state and regional judging, liaising with sponsors, students and teachers and chaperoning winning students in Canberra.

Jo has been employed in a range of academic contract positions at the University of Melbourne. She was a regular guest lecturer for the 'Professional Certificate of History Education' and has tutored in both History and Humanities methods for the Masters of Teaching. Jo coordinated the History honours subject 'The Secret Life of Things' for two years and has also tutored undergraduate History and Literature.

Jo worked as a freelance content editor on the Macmillan History 7 and Macmillan History 8 books. Her role was to manage a team of eight authors, provide the concept design of the books, check educational pedagogy and liaise with proofreaders and publishers.

While at the Melbourne Museum, Jo developed and delivered history education programs. She presented a range of history, science and psychology programs for students ranging from prep to year 12 and helped to design and coordinate holiday activities for children. She was a presenter for live shows such as 'Minmi Grows Up' and 'A Day in Pompeii'. Jo authored the book and associated education program 'My Grandmother's Toybox', that is still being used for P-2 excursions at the museum.
