Having worked in Outdoor Education for the past twenty years Jo is passionate about promoting the benefits of outdoor play and learning, and connection to nature.She has worked in Ireland, UK, Switzerland, Austria and New Zealand teaching on a range of Outdoor Education programmes. These include teaching kayaking and rock climbing, designing and running curriculum based outdoor learning for IB schools, running personal development programmes for teenagers and facilitating team building challenge days.She is interested in the holistic benefits the outdoors can bring to people’s mental, emotional, and physical well-being and is passionate about access to the outdoors for each and every young person. As a Froebelian trained Early Years practitioner, she has observed how beneficial outdoor learning can be especially in the early years. She believes strongly in the impact experiential learning can have and over the past 12 years has worked as a lead guide on service learning adventure trips with International schools. These trips involve engaging with local communities and provide service learning opportunities for young people, along with learning about local indigenous cultures, language and food. Mainly based in Vietnam, Cambodia, Sri Lanka and Borneo, she was responsible for the safety, logistics, learning and of course enjoyment (!) for school groups.As a Lowland Leader, Bushcraft Instructor, NNAS Tutor and Forest Kindergarten trainer, she is eager to develop experience as a trainer and continue to equip others with skills to embrace outdoor learning, and in turn help more people engage with, and benefit from the natural environment.
