Peer Outreach Coordinator
CurrentI am currently employed by UW-Milwaukee’s LGBTQ+ Resource Center as a Peer Outreach Specialist, where I have developed skills in advocacy, communication, crisis support, event organization, and student advising. The LGBTQ+ Resource Center provides the campus community accessibility, education, and health resources—to both students and faculty. The LGBTQ+RC creates programs to raise awareness of queer issues and provides representation of our university’s LGBTQ+ community. Our mission emphasizes support for students by identifying intersectional experiences within the queer community, which has led to lasting partnerships with other resource centers located on campus. Our work goes beyond campus through our partnerships with secondary schools in the Milwaukee area. UW-Milwaukee’s LGBTQ+ Resource Center is also a member of the Centers for Advocacy and Student Engagement (CASE).Through the LGBTQ+ Resource Center, I have coordinated events with Sociocultural Programming, a department within UW-Milwaukee’s Student Involvement office; curated a safe space for LGBTQ+ undergraduate and graduate students (located in our main office); helped established a collaborative event series with UW-Milwaukee’s Women’s Resource Center and Student Association to facilitate conversations with marginalized students to share their experiences at UW-Milwaukee; helped organize biographical information of LGBTQ+ icons through our social media pages; and provided educational resources to faculty members seeking to deepen their understanding of LGBTQ+ identities. Currently, I am one of the Co-Leaders responsible for organizing the annual UW-Milwaukee Drag Show, a concert that highlights drag performers in the Milwaukee area and gives them a space to showcase their talents for the student body of our campus. This production is one of the largest on-campus drag shows in the Midwest, bringing in an average of 1,000+ attendees each year.
