About Jo Grindley

My career journey has been diverse and maybe unconventional, I have always made a conscious decision and never take the easy option or be afraid of change. A common theme in my career has been creating; start-up business or tech, a commercial and communication strategy, charity or goals. My first two jobs, banker and professional sportsperson, could not have been further apart in terms of culture. In banking, you never admitted a mistake for fear of reprisals, as a sports person the only way to improve is to seek feedback on what you can do better, being honest to where you need to improve and have no ego that gets in the way of allowing you to make the changes you need. That lesson has stayed with me, learn from your mistakes and look forward, not back.But when it comes to looking forward in your career, you have to look back at your accomplishments help form your future pathway.Since 2013, alongside Sir Ben Ainslie, we have worked to win the America's Cup for Britain. Starting the team together, raising £100m+ for the first campaign, keeping the momentum to be the first British team to have back to back Challenges since Sir Thomas Sopwith. In 2019 I headed up the Engagement team for Eluid Kipchoge’s history making sub 2-hour marathon, a multi-faced communication, marketing, event and stakeholder project, with the added twist of a Hollywood documentary team capturing history, in the middle of a live performance environment. History was made, but as importantly, core to the strategy was communicating Eliud’s own belief to the world, that No Human is Limited. Over 500 million people across the world witnessed Eliud make history. Since 2001, I have owned a marketing agency, www.intotheblueagency.co.uk, managing athletes, deliver sports strategies and exceptional results. The agency now focused on purpose led sport, education and design projects. My passion is for sustainability. The America's Cup team between 2014-17 were the first sports team to be awarded ISO20121 across all their operations, sustainability was at the core of how the team operated and communicated to effect positive behaviour change. Into the blue spent two years developing a life cycle analysis tool for the marine industry to try and shift the industries thinking on manufacturing. Being able to work across business, sport and sustainability has meant I have been able to bring the three together to effect positive change and go beyond sport.
