In 2011, the parent corporation of Beaumont Surgical Affiliates had quite a large lay-off of many of their seasoned RN's and LVN's, of which I was one, as I had worked there since BSA’s opening in 1998. Prior to working there, I worked from 1989 to 1998 at another day surgery center, the Surgical Center of SE Texas--mostly in Phase 2 (stepdown) Recovery Room, but also occasionally in Pre-Op and main RR as well. After graduating nursing school from Baptist Hospital School of Professional Nursing (Beaumont, TX) in 1967, and becoming an RN, I worked full-time as Charge/Head Nurse on Pediatrics at Baptist Hospital from 1967 to 1974, until my first child was born. After that, I continued to work some part-time--usually a couple of days a week, on Pedi at Baptist Hospital and later at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, until I finally went back full-time again with my first day surgery job.. As of now, because of my husband's health issues, I help him out some in his Insurance Agency, but I've also recently gone back on the PRN (as needed) list with Beaumont Surgical Affiliates. Basically still "semi-retired" however.
