Jo Lyons is a writer, poet, editor and artist. She was longlisted for the 2024 Rialto Nature and Place Poetry Competition, shortlisted for the 2023 Arts Queensland Val Vallis Award, and was a finalist in the 2021 Grieve Award. Her poetry has been featured in Cordite Poetry Review, Live Encounters magazine, and the exhibition Landscape Tells the Way: Illawarra at Wollongong Art Gallery.Jo has been an editor for over 17 years at leading Australian publishers and institutions, including Allen & Unwin, Pan Macmillan, the Powerhouse Museum, and the University of Sydney. Jo has worked with a wide range of authors and creatives such as Bruce Pascoe, Vanessa Berry, Samuel Wagan Watson, Delia Falconer, and fashion designers Akira Isogawa, Jenny Kee and Linda Jackson. Editorial experienceI am a highly experienced editor who has worked in the Australian publishing industry for over 17 years, both in-house and as a freelancer. I have experience as a publishing manager, project editor, museum editor, and freelance editor and proofreader.I have worked on hundreds of projects in book publishing and the arts sector, through the entire process from draft text to final publication or exhibition, both print and digital. My fiction book interests cross all genres and age groups, in particular women’s fiction, literary, young adult, children’s, and science fiction and fantasy. I have worked with dozens of fiction authors, including Dominic Smith, Juliet Marillier, Jaclyn Moriarty, James O’Loghlin, Dianne Blacklock, Frances Watts and Trent Jamieson.
