About Jo Platt

I am currently working as the Cochrane Information Specialist for the Central Editorial Team. I am responsible for search peer review of all post-submission protocols, reviews and updates. I lead a team of 16 international Information Specialists who volunteer their time to peer review search methods and reporting in Cochrane systematic reviews. From 2015 to March 2023 I was the Information Specialist with the Cochrane Gynaecological, Neuro-oncology & Orphan Cancer Group (CGNOC), based at the Royal United Hospital, Bath. Here i designed, ran and managed database search strategies for Embase, Medline & CENTRAL using boolean language, including searches for Prognostic, Complex and Diagnostic Test Accuracy reviews as well as Network Meta Analyses. I managed the search portfolio of over 240 Cochrane reviews, and helped in the prioritisation of updates based on altmetric data and citation. I have been involved with Living Systematic Reviews (LSRs), projects using machine learning for identification of randomised controlled trials in search yields, and a small team project helping Cochrane develop PICO vocabulary for a new trials search tool which is currently in development.Formerly a Research consultant with the University of Bath, I worked on a Teaching Development Fund (TDF) project with the Department of Pharmacy and the Learning & Teaching Enhancement Office (LTEO). I assisted in project managing the Self & Peer Evaluation of Online Teaching (SPOT) project, which aimed to work with students and university staff to develop a tool to peer review online learning resources based on published international best practice. My key interests are 'making sense of data', looking for patterns and drawing out observations. I work with both qualitative and quantitative data. I have worked in the fields of health, education, digital literacy, community development, overseas development and homelessness. I also have experience in development and fundraising work across these sectors, using narrative and logical frameworks for project planning and seeking finance.
