I initially co-founded the Plastic Oceans Foundation in 2009, to fund our documentary feature, 'A Plastic Ocean', which raises awareness whilst entertaining people on the impact of plastic in the oceans. During my role as Producer of the film, I realised the film should only be the beginning and now Plastic Oceans UK is working long term to continue the legacy of the film and to change the way we use single-use items, how we deal with our plastic waste and to challenge society's perception that this indestructible substance can be treated as 'disposable'.Along with our feature length documentary, we are launching programs in Science & Policy, Sustainability & Environmental Impact and I head up the Conservation & Education department as we work to further engage a wide and diverse audience. Our film and other media are grounded in assuring the information presented is based on the latest science and understanding of the issues.We hope to raise awareness, educate and engage audiences across the globe. By 2020, we aim to transform how consumers, governments, and businesses view, use, and dispose of plastic. Our ultimate goal is to have plastic classified globally as hazardous in the ocean.

A Plastic Ocean is a new feature-length adventure documentary that brings to light the consequences of our global disposable lifestyle. We thought we could use plastic once and throw it away with negligible impact to humans and animals. That turns out to be untrue. In A Plastic Ocean an international team of adventurers, researchers, and world-saving heroes embark on an expedition around the globe that delves into the unknown lurking beneath our seemingly pristine and remote waters. The results will astound viewers – just as it did our adventurers, who captured never-before-seen images of marine life, plastic pollution, and its ultimate consequences for human health. During its four-year production period, this adventure documentary was filmed in 20 locations around the world in beautiful and chilling detail to document the global effects of plastic pollution–and introduce workable technology and policy solutions that can, if implemented in time, change things for the better.
