I’m an Associate Professor and Director of the African Centre for Migration & Society (ACMS), University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa where I teach and supervise postgraduate students, and undertake research on a range of issues related to migration and health. I am also Director of the African Universities Research Alliance (ARUA) Centre of Excellence in Migration & Mobility and Vice-Chair of the global Migration Health & Development Research Initiative (MHADRI).I coordinate the Migration and Health Project Southern Africa (maHp) and co-lead the Researching Migration and Coronavirus in Southern Africa (MiCoSA) programme.My research is concerned with the two politically – and publicly – unpopular issues of migration and health. As a result, they’re issues that are urgently in need of improved policy and programmatic responses.As a public health researcher with a commitment to social justice, my research explores ways to generate and communicate knowledge to improve responses to migration, health and wellbeing. Fundamental to my research practice is participation in a range of policy processes at international, regional, national and local levels. This includes exploring approaches to address epistemic injustice in the development of appropriate policy responses.
