I headed up a team of passionate designers and was responsible for all design programme delivery and budget management across major strategic projects to enhance the store estate. I returned to John Lewis to work alongside the Director, Buying and Brand to pull together ideas and themes on store reinvention, setting the direction for future scoping strategy. I used my my knowledge of the retail industry and experience internationally to bring a fresh look at what John Lewis should be doing in their stores and build future growth.

I was responsible for all space changes and department refurbishments across HK and China in a dynamic retail group. No two days were the same. I achieved the successful opening of the Chengdu store in Mainland China, coordinating store design and supporting buying teams on set up. During my time there I also improved the relationships across buying and design teams and created a one team mentality for project delivery, as well as being a key liaison between marketing, online and buying teams.

I was responsible for the delivery of new department stores plus major refurbishments, from design to opening day. I led a cross functional team to develop retail design for 4 new stores and successfully delivered the opening of a new store in the Trafford Centre in Manchester, England in May 2005. I managed, coordinated and motivated across teams, and up to senior stakeholders and was the 'go to' person for all things new shops. I also worked on the strategy of the programme to ensure future success, from creating a vision and blueprint for each shop to exceed customer’s expectations and maximise sales and profit, as well as developing and implementing a repeatable process to enable John Lewis to deliver its business growth strategy.

I headed up the retail design element of the £100m refurbishment of Peter Jones in London and successfully implemented the first phase of the project in June 2002. I was responsible for whole project lifecycle from design development through to successful delivery.My key contribution to this project was to build a strong team across all touchpoints, both the project and trading teams in Peter Jones, and the central head office teams. This ensured successful delivery while maintaining good team spirit, and great communication and inclusivity to all involved in this high profile project.
