As part of my studies at Sheffield Hallam University I worked at an American National Park for a year. I learnt a great deal during my time there and enjoyed every moment. Some of my responsibilities included:Prepared and presented original interpretive programmes, talks and tours lasting 30-90 minutes for up to 40 people.Engaged visitors, provided orientation guidance, information, answered questions and advised on personal heritage queries.Supervised volunteers and delegated tasks while groups removed invasive plants, constructed fences or cleaned headstones in Stones River National Cemetery.Trained volunteers as squad bosses to lead groups extracting and spraying invasive plant species.Educated students through curriculum based programming on site and through outreach.Supervised special needs high school students on a regular basis carrying out work-based learning activities.Mixed and sprayed various herbicides throughout the park.Operated string trimmers, wood chipper and mowers. Worked with a senior lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University to determine the extent to which the UK Overseas Territories have been researched, written and discussed within industry/peer-reviewed published material. This involved leading a team of researchers discussing and analysing academic work and searching for appropriate articles and resources, assessing their appropriateness to the project's aim and selecting specific sections of significant relevance.

While home from University I work as a part-time bar and waitress employee in a private golf club. As Moor Hall Golf Club is private, creating a rapport with members and delivering a friendly, personalised service constitutes a large part of the position. Along with serving at the bar, the club also caters events, such as funerals, cocktail parties, member dinners etc. while serving these events I have gained experience in dealing with high pressure situations and remaining calm.

Within The Belfry Hotel & Resort there are numerous departments, I predominantly worked in Sam's Bar, the golf bar, but I also worked in Brabazon Bar, Ryder Grill and in Meetings and Events. Working across different departments gave me more of an insight into the workings of a hotel and a different perspective of hotel management. Whilst working in Sam's Bar I vastly improved my selling skills through up-selling extras to customers, for example if a customer ordered a meal I would recommend a side. I was also tasked with the training of new staff, allowing them to shadow me and giving them advice on any questions they had.
