About Joachim Ekström
In 1994, I started my career in marketing at a couple of different marketing agencies, working mainly with B2B marketing for clients within the life science industry. After 10 years I moved to Uppsala University where I have worked with strategic development of marketing, recruitment and communication for the last 20 years. Tasks have included developing web strategy, communication policy, brand platform and similar things. In 2011 I was asked to develop and implement an international student recruitment strategy and for the last five years I have been head of student recruitment which includes both international and domestic marketing and recruitment. The European Association for International Education (EAIE) has been a big part of my professional life and I have been in the leadership for over 10 years. First as an elected member of the steering group for the Marketing & Recruitment Expert Community where I stepped down as chair in 2018. After being one of the official EAIE trainers for a few years, I was elected into the EAIE Professional Development Committee (PDC) in 2020 where we work with development and quality assurance of the workshops and courses the EAIE offers. Since 2022 I am the elected chair of the PDC.Over the years I have made numerous presentations and held training course for colleagues all over the world which is really what gives me the energy to continue to develop, learn new things and have loads of fun while doing it!

Apart from creating a huge amount of websites during the "birth" of the web in the early 90's I also created a number of CD-based multimedia productions ranging from sales tools (automatically updated over the internet) to a virtual exhibition about runes. This last one being the first production in Sweden to use QuickTime VR for its primary navigation (1997). rather quickly, I started branching over to more and more project management and customer contact.
