Joakim Odelberg is an award-winning filmmaker, photojournalist, and underwater cinematographer with a deep focus on ocean conservation. His work spans the globe, raising awareness about the fragility of the world’s oceans and ecosystems. He aims to inspire positive change through powerful visual storytelling.Before creating the international TV series One Planet, One Chance, Joakim was the popular host of “Surrounded by Nature”, a highly regarded show on Swedish Television (SVT), where he brought viewers closer to the wonders of nature and conservation. This role established Joakim as a trusted voice in nature programming.One Planet, One Chance explores the impact of human lifestyles on the planet, from marine conservation to the effects of the palm oil industry on rainforests. The series comprehensively examines environmental challenges and the urgent need for sustainable solutions across land and sea.His journey in ocean advocacy began early, with his 2007-2008 marine debris exhibition, “Så skimrande var aldrig havet?”, which was highly recognized for spotlighting the growing issue of marine litter. In 2009, Joakim directed his first full-length documentary, “Ghosts in the Baltic Sea”, which brought the issue of ghost nets—abandoned fishing gear that continues to trap and kill marine life—to public attention. Following the documentary's success, the term “ghost nets” even entered the Swedish dictionary. The project earned multiple awards and an honorary mention, solidifying Joakim’s status as a leading voice in ocean conservation  .Joakim is also the visionary behind Nordic - A Fragile Hope, a cinematic concert experience focused on the ocean’s fragile ecosystems. The project combines stunning oceanic cinematography with live orchestral music. It will soon go to London, where it will be performed with the London Philharmonia at the Royal Festival Hall. This initiative has evolved into Fragile Hope, a global movement to inspire action for preserving the world’s oceans.Joakim serves as a White Feather Foundation Global Ambassador and MARES Global Ambassador, advocating for environmental conservation on a global scale. He is also an elected Fellow of The Explorers Club, acknowledging his dedication to exploration and marine advocacy.
