Joan represents domestic and international clients on a full range of business matters. With more than 20 years of experience in various complex transactions and all areas of business law, she has acted as lead counsel on several complex commercial transactions. Some examples include business process and technology-based outsourcings, competitive procurements, commercial agreements in the aquaculture, retail and logistics industries, construction joint ventures and construction management contracts, engineering procurement and construction management (EPCM) contracts, above-ground and under-ground mining contracts, commercial transactions (mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures) in various industry sectors, aquaculture regulatory matters, venture capital and private equity investments, franchise arrangements and general corporate/commercial and business law. Joan is also experienced with provincial and federal non-profit and charitable entities regulatory, governance and operating matters.Joan is an adjunct professor in the Faculty of Law at the University of Victoria teaching an advanced transactions course. She previously taught a closed corporations course at the Faculty of Law at the University of British Columbia. Joan joined the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation’s BC/Yukon Region Board in 2001 and served as Chair from 2012 to 2014. She has also been a member of the National Board of Directors since 2008, and currently is a member of the National Governance and Nominating Committee.
