I was born in the Philippines and moved to America three years later. Although I grew up in California, I was very much exposed to the world of business as a lot of my relatives in the Philippines owned family businesses. Growing up, I was intrigued and fascinated by the intersection between business and social impact/ethics. Specifically, I was inspired by my grandfather, who worked hard to leverage his rice business and give back to his community in the midst of war. Gaining a vision to leverage business as a tool for ethical and global social change, I actively sought ways to make a difference in areas of the world that I thought I could never reach. Thankfully, whether it be from school or church, I was exposed to a wide variety of outreach and volunteering opportunities, including multiple non-profit organizations based in India and the Philippines. Seeing the international need for basic living necessities and educational resources, I filled boxes with Christmas gifts for kids in Nigeria, packed food boxes sent to Haiti, fundraised for hygiene products to India’s orphanages, and coordinated a book drive to support a library in the Philippines.Serving has broadened my awareness of prevalent social issues, increasing my determination to inspire global change and create sustainable innovations that’ll provide basic living necessities in developing countries. As a current Marshall student at USC, I look forward to achieving these goals by learning from people of diverse backgrounds and cultures, expanding my own global perspectives, and embarking on this thrilling, never-ending journey as I explore the intersection of business, technology, and social impact!
