My name is Joana Simão, but I'm often referred to as Joana Mosi. I'm a visual artist, author, and educator. I graduated in Painting (2017) from the Faculty of Fine Arts of Lisbon and I hold a Masters in Film (2021), from Lisbon's Film School. I've authored several comic books, some of which have been awarded, such as the autobiographical mini-series Altemente (ComicHeart, 2016) and Spineless Cactus (2017, Polvo). In 2020, I was included in the international anthology Kus, with the short comic "Everything's Gonna Be Okay", with whom I've published a new project, The Apartment, in 2022. My graphic novel, The Mangoose, has been published in 2021 by Pow Pow Editions.In the last seven years, I have focused a large part of my professional activity on promoting education and literacy - both subjects I am passionate about and invested in. Since 2014, I have collaborated with several institutions, including the National Reading Plan (PNL) and the international projects ReadON and Comics for Education (KUS). I'm frequently invited to visit schools and educational institutions to promote and organize events related to literacy, comics, and arts. I have been a frequent guest speaker at several events related to my field to speak not only about my work but also on specific themes of my profession. These include TCAF Comics Festival (2022, Toronto CA), LyonBD (2022, Lyon, France), SPX Comics Festival (2018, Maryland, USA), Iberanime Portugal (2017, Portugal), and many others.
