Hello, my name is Joana, and I am a first-generation student at UNC Wilmington majoring in Respiratory Therapy and minoring in Creative Writing. As an aspiring Respiratory Therapist, I'd like to use my problem-solving and communication skills to give the best care to patients, whether it is through ventilation management or treating lung conditions. As a Latina, I know firsthand the impact of diversity in healthcare. I am passionate about bringing awareness to the healthcare challenges that Latino communities face while simultaneously being involved in helping patients breathe easier and live healthier lives. Writing is a passion that has only ever continued to grow with time. I am drawn to poetry as an artistic medium to tell stories that bring awareness to global and health issues. I enjoy experimenting with theme, form, and language as I strive to publish my work in literary magazines and on my own.
