She is patient and encouraging with clients who are seeking to move beyond their current limitations, and is able to gently point to possible areas for growth.Joan has been in career counseling and educational advising since 1995—supporting experienced professionals and undergraduate and graduate students in choosing or changing careers and educational majors, and in securing or changing employment. As a manager in the computer industry, she hired and trained multiple employees and has a clear picture of the employment process from an employer’s perspective. She understands the financial and emotional toll of being laid off, and the opportunity it provides for positive change. Having lost her husband, a life-long friend and a sister to cancer in barely two years, she also has a unique perspective on developing resiliency in the face of family illness and grief.Education/Credentials:Joan E. Mullinax is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas. She holds the equivalent of a Master’s degree in Professional Counseling, and a Master’s in Educational Psychology with an emphasis on motivation from the University of Houston. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Texas. She was involved in new product develop for fifteen years at Texas Instruments and Compaq (now HP) before discovering that she was more interested in developing people than products.
