To me teaching is a privIlege; I had the pleasure of teaching students at Thornlea Secondary School for 20 years delivering courses including Cooperative Education, Hairstyling and Aesthetics,Communications Technology, Technological Design, Exploring Technologies, Hospitality and Tourism, Business and Alternative Education. I also held leadership positions including Department Head of Technology, Guidance Counsellor, Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) School Coordinator and Academy of Creativity and Multimedia (ACAM) Co-Administrator. In addition I enjoyed extracurricular activities consisting of co-leading the STEM Team winning $20,000. worth of equipment in the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow contest ( link below), co-coaching the Ski and Snowboard Team leading athletes to OFSAA championships and teacher advisor for the Fashion Club orchestrating a school fashion show event. Student success has always been a focus both inside and outside the classroom. As an educator and lifelong learner, I continuously strived to improve pedagogy and was a member of the Leadership Team, Student Success Team, Instructional Intelligence Leaning Team; and the Assessment and Evaluation Committee. I actively sought out opportunities to leverage my skillset and contribute to a more enriching high school experience for our students.
