Joan Freitag has more than 40 years of experience working in management, business development and marketing in the AE industry. Part of this experience has included her passion for teaching those performing management and business development to become better listeners and communicators. To complete her master’s degree thesis at the University of Illinois, she developed and validated a listening training program for professionals in private practice. Since 2005, she has presented training programs at various national conferences, including the Society for Marketing Professionals, American Council of Engineering Companies and at the Society of American Military Engineers Joint Engineering Training Conference.Joan worked for and is semi-retired from Hanson Professional Services, an engineering firm. Her most recent position was leading the Federal Market as a Senior Vice President, providing strategic direction, client relationship management, business development, and managing a group of architects, engineers and scientists who worked for the Department of Defense, FEMA, and other federal agencies. She is a Fellow in the Society of American Military Engineers, served as the chair of the National ACEC Federal Agencies and Procurement Advocacy committee, and is on the board of directors of America’s Watershed Initiative, an organization that works for improvement of the Mississippi River watershed. She was the editor of an engineering textbook, “Preventive Maintenance for Buildings,” (Reinholt Von Nostrad), author of, “How to Create the Perfect Practice Logo and Brochure,” (American Health Consulting) and creator of numerous business-related and technical articles.
