About Joan Horvath

3D printing will transform many industries.Our consulting practice, Nonscriptum LLC (joint with Rich Cameron) is focused on good strategic application of maker technologies in general, and on training others to use them. We have a special interest in using the capabilities of 3D printing to teach math, particularly to those who learn differently. We have written seven books for the Apress imprint of Springer-Nature publishing, and four for Make Community LLC. We have authored many courses for LinkedIn Learning (formerly Lynda.com) and curriculum for learners age 6 through corporate. I am also a recovering rocket scientist, and spent 16 years at Caltech's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, as well as being an MIT alum active in various alumni pursuits.Specialty: Finding ways to explain technology, math and science to people so they get it. We are experienced in developing content for both online learning and traditional print. We particularly believe in teaching math intuitively, and using maker technologies to explore new ways of enabling that.

    Nonscriptum provides consulting and training in 3D printing and other "maker" technologies, as well as developing and delivering curriculum materials for K-12 through corporate clients. My co-founder Rich Cameron (https://www.linkedin.com/in/whosawhatsis/) and I also have coauthored seven books for Apress and two for Make. We teach online for LinkedIn Learning (formerly Lynda.com), giving us substantial experience in content development for online learning. We also founded and run the Pasadena 3D Printing Meetup (www.meetup.com/Pasadena-3D-printing-meetup), which meets monthly and is just shy of 1000 members, as well as a meetup for robotics teachers and coaches figuring out how to work remotely (https://www.meetup.com/Remote-Robotics-Coaches-and-Mentors).
