I manage the summer Off-campus program for students hoping to earn high school credits while gaining valuable work experience.

Teaching adult English Language Learners (CLB 6) through the LINC program offered by Chinook College.Trained in PBLA.

My role was to support the development of programs for newcomer students with limited formal education and trauma following the Federal government initiative to bring 25,000 Syrian refugees to Canada in 2016. I provided professional development for new teacher and support staff hires in the area of Literacy, English, and Academic Development (LEAD) and worked closely with elementary, junior/middle, and senior high schools to plan for the programming needs of the students.

Responsibilities revolved around providing leadership and support to teachers, schools, and the System in the area of English language learning. Responsibilities included:- Intake and assessment of students- Meeting with families regarding school placement- Document development- Working closely with internal and external stakeholders- Providing professional learning opportunities to teachers - Initiating and carrying out action research- Presenting at conferences

Member of the School Administrative team responsible for managing the needs of the ESL department, including:- Programming- Student assessment and reporting- Timetabling for both students and staff- Professional Learning Committee and ELL team meetings- Working with internal and external stakeholders- Responding to the needs of teachers and support staff- Teaching ELLs at various levels of language proficiency

Supported English language learners from grades 7 through 12 to develop academic English language proficiency. Routinely organized real-world and experiential English language learning opportunities to build cultural awareness and linguistic fluency. Designed meaningful classroom activities that narrowed the educational gap for students with limited formal education. Provided explicit language instruction in all of the core subject areas to support transition into mainstream classrooms.

Developed and delivered a six-part series for teachers working with complex adult English language learners. The course was dedicated to building the capacity of teachers to support the language, literacy, and mental health needs of students with barriers to learning.
