Hi, my name is Joan, and I co-founded and scaled the same business twice. At the ripe age of 27, I co-founded FRAME, a disruptor brand within the fitness industry in 2009, right at the start of the GFC recession. Originally from New Zealand 🇳🇿, where I spent most of my life competing in sports, I set out on my travels in my early twenties and found myself in London 🌍. While sports and exercise have always been my passion, I found the gym scene in London de-motivating and believed there had to be a more fun way to work out. Understanding firsthand how movement improves mental well-being and how it makes you feel, the idea for FRAME was born. Leveraging my Finance & Marketing degree 🎓, together with my business partner Pip, we've championed making exercise fun for everyone 🎉.The journey of growing FRAME from 1 to 7 locations included:Financing: 💰 Securing bank loans, angel investors, private equity, and navigating an administration process (thanks Covid)Property: 🏢 Location finding, negotiations, design & build, and operationsHuman Resources: 👥 Managing full-time, part-time, and freelance staff; scaling; training & developmentCustomer Experience & Marketing: 📈 Enhancing customer engagement and brand promotionThis journey has given me 15 years of an on-the-job MBA, opportunities for trial and error, and real-life experiences to draw on to help others succeed.
