New Business Development Manager
In 2019, I was invited to take up the role of New Business Development Manager based on my experience, my approach to work, and my specific insight into Primark’s beauty customers. Initially based in Reading, UK, I later relocated to Primark's Dublin HQ.The New Business Development function is responsible for third-party concessions trading within Primark stores and my remit covers 20 beauty studios in 3 regions (UK, ROI, Portugal) and 2 Barbershops in the UK not including pipeline expansion of 6 new beauty studios by the end of 2022. This role is all-encompassing in that I source new operators, project manage new openings, engage with the host stores to ensure collaboration between teams, and work closely with our concession partners to drive a commercial return in the current portfolio. I have also raised the profile of New Business Development teams with Primark's senior management, having introduced twice-monthly strategy meetings and structured quarterly business reviews. THE RESULTS:*Reduced capital investment, increased sales & stronger partnerships*On track to propel beauty revenues to as much as £7M for 2022*Triple-digit YOY actual sales growth*Planned New Business Beauty Openings for 2022 +30% on 2021*Balanced KPIs that capture customer satisfaction as well as financial metrics*Explosive growth on social media and brand visibility at major corporate events
Senior Buyer – Health & Beauty
Having returned back to the business after Maternity Leave, I was appointed to the Health & Beauty department buying primarily skincare products. The position covered the full spectrum of business activities typical of strategic retail buying; namely trend analysis, negotiating the right deal on pricing, quantity & range with suppliers, collaborating with internal stakeholders; negotiating distribution, retail pricing, timing including point sale activity, and social media coverage.THE RESULTS:*Helped launch a new range of cruelty-free, vegan-friendly skincare products.*Achieved double-digit growth of Skincare mix of sales throughout the UK & ROI*Reduced Sales Markdown by 73% since 2017*Grew sales profit from 7% (2017) to 21% (2018)
Senior Buyer - Lingerie
I always say this position required real blood, sweat and tears but from this came renewed confidence in my own ability along with assertiveness and the respect of my peers and managers. I feel this was a defining moment in my career in terms of realising my own leadership and strategic capabilities. Having returned to Primark after a 6 months career break, I relocated to the UK and took over a centralised category team controlling 330 underwear, bra and accessory options throughout the UK and Northern Europe with an annual budget of £80 million. This multifaceted position including developing and coordinating the seasonal buying strategy and pricing architecture, direct product development and management of critical path from concept stage through to shop floor, working where possible with season colour stories and trends.Alongside my daily work also managed joint projects between the Reading and Dublin office on future retail concepts and collaborated with the technical product manager to improve fit and quality across the range to best reflect customer trends. THE RESULTS*16% increase in sales, *29% increase in profitability achieving £2.3M excess of budgeted profit target 2013/2014*Primark briefs share grew by 4% from 14.2% to 18.2%
Design Intern (4-Month Placement During A 6-Month Sabbatical)
I was fortunate to assist Anna Sui directly and worked with the design team in the planning for New York Fashion Week Ready-to-Wear Fall 2013 show and collection. I provided support in all model castings and fittings, the show preparations and backstage during the live show. In addition, I also contributed to garment design including T-shirt design and pattern making.
Lingerie Buyer
In 2010, I began to truly appreciate the impact procurement has on business profitability. My remit widened to deliver numerous strategic retail value creation initiatives to meet ambitious revenue, margins and working capital targets. I also crafted and delivered a customer-centric category management plan to propel the next stage of growth for a €55 million p.a. lingerie portfolio across 94 stores throughout Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Belgium, Iberia and Holland. It was a case of "all hands on deck" and included everything from sourcing to visual merchandising, even assisting the odd photo shoot to ensure the images captured the products design as originally intended.
Homeware Buyer
I was subsequently promoted to Buyer to help position the organisation for sustained and profitable sales growth through the implementation of strategic purchasing plans covering a wider remit of bedroom and kitchen products. This included leading highly collaborative concept-to-execution efforts to support Primark’s international expansion into the Spanish market including the creation of tailor-made product solutions to meet country-specific needs.
Homewares Buyer Designate
I received another promotion to take on Maternity Leave Cover while in the position of Buyer Designate for bedroom and kitchen products in the UK with a budget of €25 million and a team of 2 buying administrators. When the Buyer returned in Feb the following year, I continued with my Dublin based portfolio buying for Ireland, Spain & Portugal.
Assistant Buyer
I was quickly promoted to Assistant Buyer to manage an €18 million homewares portfolio. Having carried out extensive market research and trend analysis, I discovered opportunities to expand the product base. Examples include launching Primark’s first luggage range and designing highly popular coordinated bedroom ranges along with and a new mix-and-match range of cushions and throws.
Trainee Retail Buyer
I originally joined Primark as a commercially-focused and ambitious Trainee Buyer for a range of Bedding and Duvet Covers worth €15 million annually.
