Joanna Hoopingarner DNP, APN, AGNP-C, CWOCN, CFCNBiosketch:Prior to a calling in nursing, Joanna received a Bachelor of Fine Art from Savannah College of Art and Design. Taking a hiatus to travel she worked as a flight attendant for United Airlines based in New York city and San Francisco. Searching for a way to help others in a substantial way led her to complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from UTHealth Science Center in Houston, Texas. During a PACU clinical rotation Joanna was drawn to the Burn Unit where she worked for several years, then deciding to specialize in wound care attended Emory University to achieve certification in wounds, ostomies, continence, and foot and nail care from WOCNCB. Joanna worked as and inpatient WOCN and moonlighted on an LTAC wound care team until her husband’s job relocated the family to Colorado. Working as a wound specialist in home care while completing a Master’s of Science in Nursing from the University of Colorado Anschutz medical campus. She then began working for Bloom Healthcare, a geriatric primary care home rounding service. After a year and a half of primary care she and Dr. Tom Lally developed a wound care program to service the chronic wound needs of this vulnerable population. Joanna has recently achieved Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Colorado Anschutz medical campus. Joanna is currently working on expanding Bloom Healthcare’s wound care program to spread comprehensive evidence-based wound care practices to more patients in need.
