As the Community Development Department's Program Operations Manager, I work closely with the leadership team and program staff to build and maintain systems and processes to ensure effective, efficient, and impactful work in communities across Minnesota. My responsibilities have included planning and running our department's annual conference, facilitating the conversations and processes to digest and make action plans in response to the employee engagement survey, and supporting the Associate Dean in planning and executing a refreshed strategy for the department.

In this role, I was responsible for leading my team and our work in partnering with school districts and community organizations to increase food access for Minnesota youth and their families. My focus areas in this work included establishing a more robust strategic and data-driven equity framework for engaging with and investing in partners, as well as building in stronger collaboration and partnerships both internally and externally. We worked to strengthen our advocacy presence and our voice as a subject matter expert in the areas of child hunger and food resources.

Greater Minneapolis-St. Paul Area

I worked closely with my team of Specialists to create a strong network of relationships with school and community partners to grow food access for school and community partners, through technical assistance, resource sharing, and on-the-ground support. Specifically, I managed team strategy around the Summer Meals program (SFSP), including intern management, budget, partnership strategy, and capacity building grants. To support these initiatives, I regularly partnered with the Communications team to co-create educational and awareness-building promotional campaigns. I also coordinated and facilitated monthly partner meetings to share best practices and opportunities, and providing an important space for partners to problem solve and discuss challenges.

In this position, my team and I worked under the City Clerk to administer Early In Person (Absentee) voting for the primary and general elections. My responsibilities included responding to public inquiries on the early voting process and providing Spanish interpretation and assistance when necessary. I processed voter registration and absentee ballot requests for the 2016 elections, and as part of the end of the day reconciliation and tabulation, my team and I processed and prepared voted ballots and absentee applications. Furthermore, I supported internal processing and procedures through manual updates and by helping to establish record keeping systems to better uphold Minnesota voting statutes.

At LCC, my main goal was to increase civic participation in the neighborhood organization and to ensure our work remained relevant to community needs. As the community organizer, I worked alongside residents to create projects, programs and activities based on interests and opportunities in Greater Longfellow, on issues varying from crime and safety to native ecological restoration and social justice issues. Much of my work was executed through committees that I supported as staff person. I also facilitated and coordinated collaborative partnerships and projects with other community stakeholders, organizations, businesses, and elected officials to increase the efficacy of our work.

My position ensured smooth operation and customer satisfaction with Delta Airlines. I assisted in parking planes, loading and unloading cargo and bags, and moving bags to their necessary locations for connections. I also assisted with customer service when necessary.

Phillips, Minneapolis

I was involved in various community organizing initiatives around racial justice and food equity. As part of my more recent work, I was part of a team of organizers and community leaders who worked to map, research, and strengthen the community-wide work being done in the Phillips neighborhood around food access and healthy living education. I helped organize and facilitate listening sessions to gather input from over 400 community members, and I also assisted in processing the extensive comments to craft a final report. Through the summers of 2014 and 2015 I also supported an undertaking to survey the Franklin Avenue Corridor in Phillips and work with other community groups to craft advocacy goals and plans. This work ran parallel to event support for Franklin Avenue Open Streets.

With Summer of Solutions, a group of volunteers spent a summer organizing under the umbrella of the Green Economy. My projects focused on outreach and organizing in the Latino business community to encourage collaboration and education around sustainable business practices. Furthermore, I worked with urban agriculture and community gardens to increase education and awareness around the importance of local food systems.

As a volunteer attendant at the walk-in Resource Center, I assisted clients with a variety of services. Tasks primarily included document translation, interpretation, and writing of new documents. I connected clients to resources within and available to the Latino community, and informed them of various opportunities available, such as educational offering, job openings, and events. I also fielded many questions about city services and public transportation.

As a student neighborhood liaison, my principle goal was to improve the relationships between student renters and homeowners. I engaged residents through events, projects, and service opportunities to enhance livability and civic participation. To successfully organize events and opportunities, I fostered partnerships with other stakeholders in the community. An example of a very successful project was creating a neighborhood community garden with approximately 30 residents, coworkers, and members of community organizations. I also helped develop and support restorative justice and other strategies to solve persistent problems that arose in the neighborhoods.

As a field manager, I oversaw 5-7 employees, their equipment and performance, as well as logistical planning for their transportation and scheduling of canvassing. In the office, I provided job training for all levels of canvassers, especially in the area of effective messaging. Post-canvassing, I debriefed daily with my superiors to discuss general performance, planning, and logistics and to communicate between my team and my superiors. In addition to these roles, I continued to canvass and personally conversed with nearly 1000 community members about labor and jobs, government, and the economy.
