I am a scholar of the Bronze and Iron Age Mediterranean world and its interconnections with the Near East and Egypt. I have taught widely in the art and archaeology of the ancient world and archaeological and art historical method and theory. I particularly enjoy teaching with objects, whether in museums or in the field. Currently I co-direct an archaeological fieldwork project in Polis Chrysochous, Cyprus. Current work focuses on publication, field survey, and computer modeling. I recently co-curated an exhibition of objects from those excavations for the Princeton University Art Museum, City of Gold: Tomb and Temple in Ancient Cyprus (October 20, 2012 - January 20, 2013). I am currently curating the collection of ancient art at the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art and conducting research at the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. From April through June of 2015 I will be a Residential Scholar at the Getty Research Institute. There I will be working to complete a book about some of my favorite kinds of ancient objects, small objects called seals. Through studies of their carving histories, I will be reexamining artistic, social, and political connections in the ancient city of Enkomi on the island of Cyprus.
