Acumen launched its first Energy Impact Report in early 2018, a comprehensive look at the impact of its 10 years of investing in off-grid energy as of 2017; the culmination of 7,500 interviews with 5,500 off-grid energy customers across 11 countries using Lean Data. In my Summer Associate role, I managed the execution of Acumen's 2018 Energy Lean Data projects and researchers for its' next impact report, tailored surveys to gather additional insights for companies, conducted analysis on qualitative and quantitative data gathered, and created compelling presentations using this data to spur actionable insights for companies. I led a focus group with local researchers to refine guidelines used when surveying improved cookstove users, and created a database to manage researcher training. Developed by Acumen, Lean Data applies lean experimentation principles to the collection, use, and accessibility of social impact data. Lean Data helps companies incorporate impact measurement and customer-centricity into their businesses by using low-cost technology and methods to gather high-quality data quickly and efficiently directly from customers. It involves a shift in the mindset of impact measurement away from reporting and compliance, to creating value for a company and its customers.
