Joanna Chan is an enthusiastic and creative individual with a passion for health, international development, and marketing. Joanna started her university career at San Diego State University (SDSU) as a recipient of the Incoming International Student Scholarship. After three years at SDSU she transferred to Carleton University to complete her B.Com (honours) degree from the Sprott School of Business. Joanna has completed her Certificate in International Development from the University of British Columbia, as well as her Masters of Science in Public Health, Health Promotion with the University of London’s London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in the UK. In 2014, Joanna graduated from McMaster University's Physician Assistant Education Program (BSc. PA).Joanna worked full-time as Strategist and Project Manager at the Centre of Excellence for Public Sector Marketing (CEPSM), where she is now an Associate and continues to specialize in strategic digital engagement, social media monitoring, strategic marketing, and social marketing for behaviour change. Some of Joanna's clients have included Northern Institute of Organizational Capacity, Public Health Agency of Canada, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, CRTC, Ontario 211, Public Safety Canada, Canadian Museum of Nature, and Human Resources and Skills Development Canada. Joanna co-authored a guide to branding in the public and not-for-profit sectors and has played major roles in developing national marketing strategies for Status of Women Canada, Canadian Air Transport Security Authority, and Canadian Heritage. In January 2013, Joanna wrapped up her 2 year role as content expert and trainer for a social marketing for behaviour change project in the President’s Office for Public Service Management in Tanzania, East Africa. This project focused on training local public sector employees to develop a social marketing for behaviour change strategy on ethical behaviour in the public service of Tanzania.Currently, Joanna works as a physician assistant (PA) with the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario. Joanna was the first PA at the hospital and one of the first PAs in pediatrics in Ontario. In this role, Joanna works closely with patients and their families providing high quality medical care as part of a comprehensive multi-disciplinary team.
