"Place matters not for its coordinates in geographic space, but for its moral, psychological and social coordinates." (Robert Forester commenting on the work of Shirley Solomon)When Robert Forester wrote the above sentence, I believe he asserted that the imagination of the urban planner must imbue geographic space with value. Urban planning, if it is to be good, must be a blend of place-based storytelling, analytic thinking, and compassionate, humane action. In my own work as an urban planner, as I re-present three dimensional geographic space in two dimensions, I strive to retain value in its many dimensions.I am a thoughtful, inquisitive urban planner, educator and data analyst, with the flexibility to adapt to my clients’ project needs.
