The IGM AG Internship Program was awarded a Certificate of Commendation by LAUSD Board of Education and its mission is to involve college and grad students in global initiatives local to global, post-partisan community partnership to make an impact in global health. The IGM AG connect students and experts already in the field to transfer their experiences and skills over to the students to successfully transition from college to jobs in global healthcare. Currently the program has obtained collaboration of the USC School of Public Policy. It has provided support to worldwide organizations, such as Emergency USA and helped fund $6,500. The program is waiting for NIH approval to provide research opportunities for students.

AWBW is a member for the Society for Arts in Healthcare and I serve as a lesion with the USC Institute for Genetic Medicine Art Gallery and Global Health Alliance Society for Arts in Healthcare.AWBW is the only organization offering comprehensive training and ongoing support to domestic violence programs wishing to use art as a healing tool for battered women and children. By training shelter staff to lead workshops, AWBW builds the capacity of shelters. We provide our years of experience in arts program development, ongoing consultation, and the support of a network of 530 leaders in order to empower staff, who often lack experience with art prior to our training, to offer art as a meaningful resource to domestic violence survivors. Implementing the art program becomes part of the regular duties of each leader, making it a permanent addition to each shelter’s services.

Awarded from Common Cause and Focus the Nation and together organized a program for her and other awardees to train for and attend the Redistricting California Conference. On November 2, 2012, Joanna as Internship Co-Chair was awarded a certificate of commendation by the LAUSD Board of Education for her efforts to inform, engage and empower LAUSD students, university undergraduates and graduate students while linking their work to that of community leaders in Greater Los Angeles.
