I have devoted over 30 years to teaching children to read, working as a Reading Specialist, Literacy Coach, Classroom Teacher grades K-6, GATE teacher, and Mentor Teacher. I have taught in Lynwood, CA, Fairfax, VA, Long Beach, CA, Beverly Hills, CA. and Roseville, CA. My involvement with the International Reading Association, Virginia and California Reading Associations and the Greater Washington Reading Council and the Placer Area Reading Association have enhanced my knowledge of literacy and given me a vehicle to give back to the literacy community. Providing staff development in reading to teachers on both coasts, throughout California and in the Dominican Republic have given me opportunities to share what I have learned throughout my career. As Conference Chair, I enjoyed planning the 2014 State Reading Conference in Sacramento, CA on October 17-18, 2014. It is an honor and privilege to be a member of the Board of Directors for the California Reading Association and to have served as their President for 2015. In 2016 I have enjoyed supervising student teachers at University of California, Sacramento. Joining the Benchmark Education Team as a consultant in April 2016 affords me the opportunity to visit school districts up and down the state to share balanced literacy and best practices in reading with our committed teachers in the golden state.
