I have worked on several projects as a graduate research assistant. The most recent project was part of the Global Agricultural Monitoring (GEOGLAM) Initiative. I was responsible for the acquisition and post-processing of several earth observation data sets; implementation of multiple EO datasets into an operational machine learning algorithm for AMIS Crop Monitor projects; organization of the metadata and operational notes. Within other projects I have been responsible for the acquisition and post-processing of MODIS satellite imagery and quality assurance bits for extraction of cloud pixels; the spatial and temporal analysis of cloud climatology; providing remote sensing and geographic information system (GIS)support for research on dynamics of Arctic lakes; and acquisition and post-processing of Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) imagery for quantifying the contribution of open water to surface emissivity.

Led the composition of a summary research report for the USDA Arctic Black Carbon Program and assisted in the management and organization of the data generated by the program over the past four years. Specifically, I was responsible for consolidation of research from multiple groups (USDA ForeignAgricultural Service, USDA Agricultural Research Service, U.S. Forest Service AirFire Research Team, and the Missoula Fire Science Laboratory team). I also delivered a final USDA Arctic Black Carbon report to the Department of State. This position also required travel to a number of locations.

This project comprised the first research chapter of my dissertation. I was responsible for the creation of a customized MODIS-based burned area algorithm for Russian cropland based off training samples extracted from very high-resolution satellite imagery. Other responsibilities included:- Identification and extraction of field samples using manual and automated digitization methods (ENVI FX tool).- Acquired high resolution multispectral imagery from National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) via WARP and the DigitalGlobe data query portals- Production of quarterly report updates for the Department of State.- Attending workshops and monthly teleconferences between the USDA Forest Service, USDA International Program and USDA ARS.- Trained and supervised several image analysts at the University of Maryland and USDA ARS Hydrology and Remote Sensing Laboratory

I provided remote sensing and geographic information system (GIS) support for research on dynamics of Arctic lakes.

I worked on a project focused on comparing observationally based surface air temperature to modeled outputs using the Grid Analysis and Display System (GrADS).
