Soft Robotics Research Assistant
Summary: At the Microfluidics lab, I was responsible for the design and development of ongoing medical device projects in relation to braces and lymphedema therapy. I fabricated and iterated on various prototypes, gaining extensive experience in CAD design using Solidworks and 3D printing with filament and resin printers. It was an amazing term that allowed me to explore the research process, gain design and prototyping experience, as well as collaborate with both research and industry partners.• Design researcher in the fabrication and utilisation of pneumatic artificial muscles (PAMs) and McKibben muscles• Prototyped and fabricated a pneumatic lymphedema glove and posture corrector• Developed a MATLAB standalone application using machine learning to generate optimal PAM dimensions and fabrication based on desired force output• Simulated 2D flow of lymphatic fluid through a lymph node and 3D flow through various geometry using COMSOL• Conducted tensile testing on samples of TPU according to the ASTM D882-18 standard• Experienced in CAD design using Solidworks and 3D printing with both FDM and SLA printers.• Conducted regular literature review to inform design decisions as well as aid in paper and grant proposal writing
