Take Stock in Children was established in 1995 as a non-profit organization in Florida that provides a unique opportunity for deserving low-income youth/students, many from minority families, to escape the cycle of poverty through education. Take Stock offers students college scholarships, volunteer mentors and hope for a better life. • Direct and supervise day-to-day operations of the program; responsible for all scholarships/general program fundraising, college-readiness academic workshops and fiscal management of the organization and board of directors. • Since assuming E.D. role, raised over $2.3 million dollars in grants and private donations to fund college scholarships for at-risk youth, including the successful management of a $1.5 million dollar government grant through CareerSource South Florida. • Successfully graduated over 500 local at-risk high school seniors from Miami’s “failing” high schools; totaling over $5 million in scholarship value. • Developed new partnership with the City of Miami Mayor’s Office to create annual cultural exchange trip to Spain, free of cost to participating students as well as securing 50+ City of Miami employees to serve as program mentors to students. • Collaborated with former NBA Champion Shane Battier and his Take Charge Foundation to create a new scholarship program at Miami Central Senior High school, granting 24 students with 4-year scholarships. • Inherited the organization out of compliance; now considered a “turnaround” and fully compliant according to Florida Department of Education and Take Stock in Children Inc. requirements.
