ESTUDO PRÉVIO (Preliminary Study), it's the semiannual publication of the Centre for Architecture, City and Territory Studies (Centro de Estudos de Arquitectura, Cidade e Território) of Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa (CEACT/UAL).With this publication we want to project a new place where it is possible to share knowledge with a simple conversation, with the accuracy of a technical article, with a book launching or with an open debate in the digital community.The proposal to create another architecture magazine was, since the beginning, a challenge to choose a slightly different path and so we created an editorial line centred on the real conditions that determine an architectural production before any sketch or model or even before we become architects.

In 2008 I was invited by the architect Manuel Graça Dias to integrate the Autonoma University of Lisbon team as an Assistant Professor and since then I have been connected to the university, both in teaching Project I and II in the 1st year of the course and through the partnership with the Center for Studies in Architecture, Cities and Territories (CEACT) as Guest Researcher and as Workshop’s Tutor.

atelierBASE was founded in Lisbon in 2008. Nowadays have two partners in charge, João Caria Lopes and André Vieira de Castro. atelierBASE maintains the idea of the “site-specific architecture” as main core, as the final user, the better program, the real budget, adding a bold positive attitude, searching for new ways of human uses in every projects.

CEACT/UAL – Architecture, City and Territory Studies Centre of Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa inserted in Dorothy Cluster:DOROTHY is the acronym of ‘Development of regional clusters for research and implementation of environmental friendly urban logistics’ and is founded by the programme Regions of Knowledge (REGIONS-2012-2013-1). DOROTHY has the mission to enhance the distribution process of urban goods by reducing the number of vehicles and enhancing environmental standards, the project will help to improve the quality of life in European cities. By using the approach of clustering around innovation DOROTHY project aims to develop the potential of innovation and research in urban logistics across the European regions of Tuscany (Italy), Valencia (Spain), Lisbon & Tagus Valley (Portugal) and Oltenia (Romania). A regional research-driven cluster will foster the setting up of a cluster in each of the other three participating regions. The DOROTHY project will help to boost the competitiveness of all the clusters and strengthen their focus on advanced technological areas with a high potential for innovation. Enhancement of the clusters’ research and development (R&D) capacities will contribute to the regional development of smart specialisation strategies for resource-efficient technologies. Areas of intervention range from electro-mobility to automotive components, through information and communications technology (ICT) systems. The cluster will focus on new developments and on the possible creation of specialisation niches.

The PhD degree in Architecture of the Contemporary Metropolitan Territories elects contemporary territory as a central theme for debate, focusing in the establishment of research branches in a wide scientific network.The scientific guideline to this study cycle is hosted by DINAMIA-CET’IUL (research Centre evaluated as Excellent by FCT) and results from the intersection of architecture, landscape architecture, public art and urban development.The construction of a multidisciplinary frame, resulting from the discussion of ideas among personalities coming from these disciplinary areas, clarifies the perception about metropolitan phenomena and their contemporary culture.

O ciclo de estudos integrado, conducente ao grau de mestre em Arquitetura do ISCTE-IUL, tem uma duração de 10 semestres aos quais correspondem 300 ECTS, 180 ECTS no primeiro ciclo (3 anos) e 120 ECTS no segundo ciclo (2 anos). O Mestrado Integrado em Arquitetura (MIA) está alicerçado numa convergência das várias áreas científicas em torno da atividade de projeto onde se promove uma reflexão prática e teórica no sentido de dotar o aluno de um pensamento informado, crítico e autónomo perante as várias dimensões do espaço. O primeiro ciclo do MIA está sedimentado na experimentação de várias escalas de projeto, na aquisição de progressiva autonomia do estudante e na resposta a problemas de crescente complexidade. Juntamente com o segundo ciclo, e particularmente com a síntese operada nos dois últimos semestres, consolida-se a coerência de um programa formativo de acordo com uma prática consolidada e a exigência de requisitos profissionais excecionais.Pretende-se ver a arquitetura de forma holística e, simultaneamente, conseguir abordar de forma analítica os seus constituintes na procura da técnica e da ciência que os fundamentam, de modo a responder aos desafios da sociedade contemporânea.
