JP Coimbra is a highly acclaimed multi-instrumentalist, composer, and producer based in Porto. His musical journey commenced as a percussionist and drummer, delving into the realms of Jazz, African polyrhythms, funk, and classical repertoire. Following extensive touring with prominent Portuguese artists in his late 20s, JP Coimbra ventured into crafting his compositions using a musical sequencer and a sampler. This marked the genesis of his first music project, MESA.The release of MESA's self-titled debut album in 2003 sent ripples through the Portuguese music scene, garnering numerous awards and recognition. The album, alongside Kraftwerk and Franz Ferdinand, was lauded as one of the best European albums of 2004 by Emanuel Legrand, Billboard Magazine Editor in Europe. MESA went on to produce five more albums, solidifying JP Coimbra's position as a leading Portuguese composer for film, television, and theatre, as well as a musical director, producer, and versatile multi-instrumentalist over two decades.In 2020, JP Coimbra embarked on his most adventurous musical endeavor yet with the release of "VIBRA." This instrumental masterpiece, also serving as his first solo album, seamlessly blends elements of classical and electronic music. Recorded in various distinctive locations in Porto, such as a tube station, an underground river, a concert hall, and a contemporary art gallery, "VIBRA" explores the transformative impact of these spaces on music composition.The critical acclaim surrounding "VIBRA" caught the attention of Manners McDade, leading to JP Coimbra's signing in 2021. The subsequent re-edition of the album featured a remix of the single "From Afar" by Matthew Herbert. His artistic collaborations span diverse areas, reflecting his interest in various musical genres, including Jazz, Pop, Experimental Music, Improvised Music, Contemporary Music, Stage Music, and Cinema. As a composer, arranger, and instrumentalist, he has collaborated with a notable list of artists, including Regina Guimarães, António Durães, Rui Reininho, Nuno Markl, Pedro da Silva Martins, João Reis, Ana Deus, Alexandre Soares, Dimitris Andrikopoulos, Pedro Abrunhosa, Sérgio Carolino, Frederic Cardoso, among others.
