As an underwriter for JPM Chase, I worked under the Mazda Capital Services private label. I was responsible for one of the largest markets by volume, handling south Texas franchise Mazda dealers. My role included working closely with the sales team to ensure we are assisting dealers meet their goals. I had the unique experience of being present when Mazda announced their move to Toyota as their finance partner.

As a Product Specialist in the Sales department, my role entailed sales of new and pre-owned (certified and non-certified) vehicles. I was responsible for managing a pipeline of new and returning business, product demonstration, and providing sales consultation and support. In this role, I manage the liquidation of repossessed inventory on behalf of lienholder clients. My territory covered primarily the Central and Texas market but included responsibilities throughout the entire United States and Puerto Rico. In addition, I provided market trend analysis to both internal peer groups as well as external clients utilizing our services. I assisted the internal Remarketing Team by developing, coaching, and motivating them to excel beyond the standard. My role, in essence, was to assist clients meet their goals as it related to liquidating vehicle inventory.

As a senior loan officer, I underwrote consumer loans of various types: auto, motorcycle, recreational vehicles, credit cards, and lines of credit in a direct lending environment. Through detailed analysis of credit applications, credit reports, and credit union history, I would review applications in accordance with state and federal guidelines. I was a consistent Top Performer in the areas of low delinquency, low charge-offs, and fraudulent application avoidance. In addition, I was tasked with various ancillary reporting duties, employee engagement opportunities, and building bridges of cooperation and cohesion with other areas of organization.

As a senior credit analyst, I reviewed analyzed credit applications from both franchise and independent dealers in a primarily sub-prime indirect lending environment. I was responsible for establishing relationships with dealer finance and sales managers to make it easy to do business with the organization. The role required a keen eye for fraudulent indicators, careful review of credit application, and in-depth analysis of credit report history to ensure sound lending practices were followed. Risk management and loan default probability were essential skills in this role.

In this role, my primary tasks were project-based in launching the department, including training of new-hire staff, next generation system requirements, telecommunications roll-out,, and department compliance to company policy and procedures. The core business was customer retention, that is ensuring that every contact made with the lease customer was pleasant, informative, and aimed at regaining their business in the form of a new Hyundai or Kia product to replace the one being returned. The essential skills of this role were process-management, training and development, staffing, with an emphasis on product knowledge and sales technique.

As a credit analyst, my primary duties were to protect the company’s investments by selectively reviewing retail, lease, and balloon contracts originating from franchise dealers and deciding on the appropriate structure of a deal. This role required making sound underwriting decisions taking into account, manufacturer sales goals, company incentive programs, and dealer penetration profile data. What made me successful in this role was being approachable and easy to talk to, building positive rapport with my assigned dealers (F&I managers and GM's), and ensuring that my credit analysis was in line with sound lending practices.

My team was responsible for ensuring that all maturing lease accounts were contacted by way of outbound calling in a timely manner in accordance with company contact guidelines.
