I also wrote and edited several City public comments on a number of federal government proposed rules, including the City of Seattle public comment strongly opposing the USCIS proposed Inadmissibility on Public Charge Grounds rule.My role allowed me to work across the City to collaborate with departments to help their staff integrate effective immigrant-/refugee-focused strategies into new policies, services, and long-term planning. As OIRA’s Racial Equity Lead, I oversaw the production of Racial Equity Toolkits for various OIRA policies and programs. And I worked with Racial Equity Leads in other City of Seattle departments on issues impacting the entire city, such as how to implement effective outreach and engagement strategies for immigrant/refugee communities.I also transformed the OIRA Ethnic Media Program into a nationwide standard for other government entities wanting to improve their immigrant/refugee outreach and engagement practices. Government agencies from ports, cities, and counties across the country have contacted me to learn more about this pioneering program.I am most proud of my work helping lead the City of Seattle’s efforts to effectively distribute COVID-19 vaccines to vulnerable BIPOC residents. I actively participated in an interdepartmental team responsible for quickly planning and launching community vaccination events in partnership with CBOs. I also focused on:• Designing culturally appropriate and language accessible COVID vaccine information• Organizing community vaccination pop-ups with immigrant-led faith institutions, nonprofits, and small businesses• Ensuring limited English-proficient immigrants could access City of Seattle vaccination hubs. This work both directly and indirectly saved lives at a time when it was extremely difficult to access vaccines. I also experienced on-the-ground training on how to quickly disseminate political information to news outlets to induce widespread support for an important affordable housing bill. And as a member of the Racial Equity Team, we People-of-Color lobbyists and advocates from several sectors regularly engaged Legislators of Color in Olympia to provide racial impact analyses on important bills and worked closely with POC communities across the state to support bills that decrease racial disparities. I also enjoyed assisting the Development Director with strategizing on effective fundraising communications messages to support the organization's mission. Show less
