About Jocelyn Shek

Hello! I’m Jocelyn, a rising sophomore at Harvard College pursuing a joint concentration in sociology and statistics. I’m interested in understanding how identity, opinion, and community are formed through both geographic and digital spaces, and am particularly excited about using computational methods to understand political communication and urban policy.I currently serve as a research assistant at the Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative and the Vice President and Managing Editor of the Harvard Undergraduate Open Data Project. Previously, I was an Undergraduate Fellow for the Harvard Kennedy School program in Science, Technology, and Society; a participant in the Berkman Klein Center's Spring 2024 research sprint focused on visualizing open data in Boston; and a summer intern at the City of Rochester, MN where I built data tools to visualize areas of disparity within the city. I am currently exploring opportunities in research, government, and graphic/data journalism, and am always working to develop my skills in critical analysis and academic synthesis. In my free time, you can find me working on one of Harvard's undergraduate theatre productions or birding!
