“Best workshop we’ve ever had.” —CMO“Annoyingly popular keynote speaker”—Head of Strategy (he’s British, so this is love)“The Bill Nye for Neuroscience”—Neuroscientist“Engaging master of storytelling.”—CMO“Will you keep it down over there?”—Unimpressed neighborSHORT VERSION:I train your brain to be a more masterful thinker, creator, problem solver and storyteller—as an educator, advisor and speaker. So you can create what’s most vital in your life and livelihood. I also love jokes, GIFs and curious people. DM me with a fun fact and let’s chat. 🧠 🖤 🧠 🖤 🧠 🖤 🧠 STORY VERSION: I was born near an arctic tundra, raised on an active volcano, and grew into an agency CEO who took herself so seriously that she’d freeze up in the face of failure and want to burn everything down. TEEHEE: No biggie. After years of digging into the science of cognition, creativity and human behavior, I discovered what the most brilliant scientists on earth had already unlocked: That PLAY is the secret to leading and thriving through change. And that the stories we tell will either fuel—or extinguish—our ability to play to our potential. From being dubbed the Borg Queen for my impatience with imperfection, I became host of a standup comedy and storytelling show, creator of a humor-meets-hard-science “Tiny Tips for Your Brain” series and a global speaker on the power of narrative play to unlock creativity, joy and prosperity. Today I help leaders and teams through what I call The Art of StoryScience®, a blend of narrative strategy with the sciences of play, neuroscience and behavior change. Trusted by top leaders at Prudential, IEX, Nike, NCR Atleos, SunTrust, Truist, Microsoft and also literal neuroscientists. Ceo, Ecd | Story Scientist & Narrative StrategistScribe Jun 2008 - PresentPortland, Oregon, UsSTORY + STRATEGYcoaching, consulting and workshopsThe tiniest agency for top CMO's biggest initiatives.Trusted by Prudential, Nokia, NCR, Nike, Microsoft, HP, SunTrust, Truist, Great Life Mentoring, and more...~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~What you say defines you. Or at least how people see you. Whether they trust you. Like you. Believe what you're saying and buy what you're selling. Right. So here's how you can tell if the language you're using is effective: employees are happy and kicking ass. Customers rave about you. Strangers are curious about you. Everyone wants your opinion. Not happening? Maybe you're stuck. Maybe people aren't even talking to each other WITHIN your organization. Maybe your customers aren't understanding what you're trying to communicate.Maybe we should talk about this and figure it out?To clarify your thinking. Your message. Your strategy. Your story. To understand EXACTLY who you’re talking to. What makes them gasp, cry, laugh, feel curious, confident, motivated, invincible, alive. What makes them want to say yes. And what’s next. And give me more. To master the art of connecting dots. Between passion, purpose, profit, vision, value, outcome and reward. Between what you have to offer and why your audience should care. This isn’t magic. There’s no quick fix.You have to dig deep, obsess over the right words, craft together a narrative that ties it all together. Test. Refine. Try again. You have to start with strategy. And sell with story. You can do it all yourself.Or you can hire experts who specialize in the art of StoryScience™️ — a blend of neuroscience and narrative application that bridges divides and changes minds. That’s what we do at Scribe: help you figure out how to tell--and LIVE--your best stories. So you can take a stand, stand out and get outstanding results.Lookin SHARP, kiddo. -

Producer, Writer, Funny FinderStory Seeker, Maker, Doer 2015 - PresentWe should all make more cool things together. Things we get excited about, are proud of and simply have fun making. Film is one of those things for me. Which is why, for the last few years, I’ve been “side gigging” as a film producer, sometimes for client work—mostly for passion projects. And especially anything comedic. My job is to help find and secure ALL THE THINGS. (Cast, crew, location, hairjars, the usual.) While contributing to the storytelling of the film itself. MOST recently, “Eight Sides of Red” (a short where I served as producer and part of the story team for this Portland 48 Hour Film Festival production) won 5 awards:1st runner up for best film (2nd place)Best acting ensemble Best use of character Best choreography Best sound design And yes, we literally wrote, shot and edited in 48 hours AND NOT EVEN ONE PERSON lost their mind.#48hourfilmfestival2018 http://www.48hourfilm.com/portland-orOTHER PROJECTS:Nike N7 (producer), a celebration of Native culture and artistry, shot outdoors in one of Portland’s most iconic parks. “Tony Eats a Shrimp,” (producer) another Todd Harold Production that's just won its first award. (Cute shrimpie)“One Bird at a Time,” (executive producer) took this web series to the funding finish line so more people could learn from this story about a hapless yet hope-inspiring do-gooder.“Bankers,” (executive producer, story team, co-director) a comedic take on how it feels to be talked at by robo-banks, so loved by our client it’s now part of a companywide training program.“Sublease,” (location manager) showing us that sometimes the offer is too good ... because of who passed on.

Producer, Dir. Community OutreachCurious Ear Aug 2016 - Feb 2018When I heard “wanna build a giant ear ... that connects to a giant mouth?” well. You know: SWOON. Because what kind of writer wouldn’t want to see how words could flow from a half art piece, half-technobeast project designed to connect people who don’t normally talk to each other? People on the Left and Right. Homeowners and homeless. Elementary kids and those in elderly hospice. One talks, the other listens. And then they swap places. I'm really proud of the work this team pulled off in such a short amount of time. As producer and head of outreach, I connected our group with local organizations, applied for grant funding (we won), got us featured in the news, led content development, and secured our spot at locations and events... Plus I painted some lips. Which feels great for someone who normally loathes wearing lipstick. (Is that a form of schadenfreude?)some highlights include-winning a grant to fund 3D design and printing for weather-resistant products that we could place in more locations-bridging generations by linking residents of a nursing home with elementary school kids -inspring, collecting and sharing practical advice for bridging racial and cultural divides (@ResolutionsNW)-getting into SPACENESS and paving the way for Pickathon residency

Copywriter And Project ManagerAha Strategy And Creative Agency 2007 - Jun 2008Vancouver, Wa, UsA memorable chapter in my early career, where I learned what "derring-do" meant and used it to write copy that people liked. Those people worked at HP, Charles Schwab, Microboards, and Confluence. One of them hung a disco ball over their cubicle, which made them easy to find in the otherwise corporate-gray miasma. I got inspired to start my own company, where people could think more like disco balls. And never have to use the word miasma. -
Freelance WriterExperience.Com 2006 - 2008Provided useful distractions to high school and college students with find-your-purpose articles and advice. (I know, I totally made "purpose" cool.) Kind of like Dear Prudence for forlorn academics.

Writing ConsultantPortland State University Sep 2006 - Jun 2007Portland, Or, UsWas basically a superhero for college kids who needed to write better stories. Or for the professors who had to read those stories. The office was only slightly bigger than a telephone booth. And I ate a lot of rice. For stamina. -
Freelance JournalistWillamette Week 2007 - 2007UsI wrote an unsolicited article at (yes: at) Portland's award-winning alt-weekly. Somehow they agreed to let me continue writing for them. While getting involved in espionage, parachuting and fake cigarettes. You gotta know when to take risks. -
Marketing RepresentativeAbe Books Aug 2006 - Dec 2006Once upon a time, there was a little startup called Amazon and other little startups like Abe. Abe didn't have as big a reach (or legs, or ears, or arms, or teeth) as Amazon and would soon be DEVOURED by it. But I tried to help Abe, by showing students how Abe was a better deal on used textbooks, like Abe wanted. My signs did not save Abe. Sometimes words can only do so much.

Public Relations ManagerRedd Dirt Band 2001 - 2002I had no idea what I was doing, so I decided to just make stuff up. Like band posters. And press kits. And talking my way into booking the band at a venue. Which turned out to be half a strip club. Ask me how this sort of detail goes unnoticed and I'll give you a dollar.
