My Professional Doctorate research focuses on anticipating on the future(s), within the development and governance of nature-tourism destinations.This topic relates to some major transition challenges that rural areas in the Netherlands face regarding nature, water, agriculture, energy, housing and the balanced use of scarce available space. This also relates to recreation and tourism. The challenges require an integrated and joint approach. The Leisure, Tourism and Hospitality domain can play a key role in this as an overarching carrier for spatial transitions.The aim is to identify the conditions, obstacles and opportunities to effectively translate future visions for recreation and tourism into collective action, within often complex multi-stakeholder partnerships. This mostly in the context of the Alde Feanen National Park, which wants to (further) develop into a so-called 'New Style National Park'.
